Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, is a Spanish movie directed by Carles Torres. The film stars José Maria Yazpik, Berta Vàzquez, and Iria del Rio among others.
After the film arrived on small screens on October 31, 2024, it received great reception and has a 6.1/10 rating on IMDb and a rating of 6.1/10 on Amazon Video, its official streaming partner.
The film’s ending has left viewers on the edge of their seats. If you’re wondering if Manel’s cat Lúculo survives at the end, the answer is yes. Manel and his cat are both alive; however, the fate of Manel’s sister Belén and her family is not revealed at the end of the film.
How does Lúculo survive the apocalypse alongside Manel in Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End?
In Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, after the death of Manel’s (the protagonist) wife Julia, Manel lived alone with his cat Lúculo. After the TSJ virus pandemic began and everything started to shut down, Manel’s only hope was to make it to the Arousa Estuary, so that he could be escorted to the Canary Islands safely.
While on his way to the Canary Islands, Manel’s motorboat stopped midway. He and his cat (Lúculo) are saved by Ushakov and his men from the zombies. However, Manel soon learned over the course of Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, that Ushakov is a dictator, who only helped survivors at the moment so that he could rule over them later in his self-made kingdom, once the apocalypse ended.
Soon, with the help of Viktor Pritchenko (a Ukrainian gang member), Manel, Lúculo, and Viktor escape from Ushakov’s ship. They plan to go to the Canaries, however, when they reach the hospital, the chopper they were expecting to be there was nowhere to be seen.
In the hospital, Manel, Lúcolo, and Pritchenko next meet Iris, Max, Lucia, Leila, and Cecilia, a group of five, who took refuge in the hospice at the beginning of the apocalypse.
With the help of these five refugees, Manel finds a helicopter. Meanwhile, Cecilia is attacked by a zombie and infected by its bite. She decides to leave the group so that they can leave for the Canaries and find their safe hideout spot.
After this, Manel, Lúcolo, and others leave for the Canaries along with the other survivors in the chopper.
Do the survivors go to the Canaries in Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End?
At the end of the film, Manel received a message from his sister Belén, begging him not to travel to the Canaries. She was seen in despair, which hinted that the zombies and virus had also reached the Canaries, thus Belén did not want Manel to visit the island and get trapped.
However, the endingdidn’t state that Belen was dead. Manel who was on his way to the Canaries might go there to find the truth and help his sister survive the zombies if she doesn’t get killed by the time he reaches there. A sequel could shed further light on the world’s fate and Manel’s sister’s survival of the apocalypse, as the conclusion is subject to interpretation.
