Maxxxine soundtrack: The definitive guide to all songs in the movie

Maxxxine is the third film in Ti West’s X horror movie trilogy starring Mia Goth, which was released on June 24, 2024. The franchise plays out as a satire on Hollywood culture and follows the story of Maxine Minx, an adult film actress.

By the time of Maxxxine, Minx is attempting to break out into the mainstream film industry and move on from her past as a p*rn star. However, she soon realizes the heavy price she must pay in order to fulfill her dreams and has a violent family reunion with her estranged, religious fundamentalist father.

Maxxxine has a selection of licensed music that sets the mood of the film and highlights key moments. Listed below is the soundtrack to the film.

The complete Maxxxine soundtrack

The soundtrack to the Maxxxine film is as follows:

ZZ Top’s Gimme All Your Lovin’

This song plays at the very beginning of the film when Maxine has nailed her audition for a horror movie. As she leaves, the opening credits roll and the song plays as she gets into her car and drives across Hollywood until she reaches The Landing Strip Bar.

Mary Jane Girls’s In My House

This song plays immediately after ZZ Top’s preceding number and accompanies a shorter, lower-key scene where Maxine is getting dressed for one of her jobs. Like many Hollywood aspirants, Maxine has had to take on less glamorous work to make ends meet.

Ratt’s I’m Insane

This song plays for a brief moment. In the scene, Maxine enters a video store next to her apartment and talks to Leon, who’s one of her friends.

Animotion’s Obsession

This song plays throughout a number of establishing shots in the film. These shots include a montage of street performers, and the scene then shifts to a seedy Hollywood establishment known as the Hollywood Show World. As if to accentuate the shady nature of the place, the music itself takes a darker turn at that point.

Laura Brannigan’s Self Control

In the lead-up to this song, Maxine and Leon are watching the fictional horror film The Puritan. Leon then falls asleep, and Maxine hears a knock at her door. When she opens it, she spots a man rushing into an elevator, and a videotape left at her doorstep and addressed to her. As she watches the tape, the song begins to play.

John Parr’s St Elmo’s Man (Man In Motion)

This song appears on a large sign earlier on in Maxxxine. It then plays over the radio of Maxine’s car while she’s driving away from a private investigator who’s chasing her. Eventually, she stops the car, gets out, and beats him with the keys in her hand, and the song continues to play during this scene.

Judas Priest’s Prisoner of Your Eyes

This song plays when Maxine finds out that Leon is dead. She is trying to push through the crowd that has gathered around his body, unwilling to accept that it’s too late to save him. The music mutes out her screams of anguish as she reels from the shock of losing her friend.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Welcome to the Pleasure Dome

This song plays over another montage as Maxine once again faces off against the antagonistic PI. The scene shows her getting dressed and putting on makeup so she can lure him into the club’s backroom.

New Order’s Shellshock

This plays during the climactic face-off between Maxine and her abusive father. While surrounded by helicopters demanding that she stand down, Maxine has a dream sequence where she imagines herself walking down the red carpet as a star in the making. She then snaps back to reality and shoots her father dead.

Carol Burnett’s There’s No Business Like Show Business

This song plays after Maxxxine flashes forward by a month, showing that Maxine’s career continues to skyrocket despite her killing her father. She’s seen indulging in dope ahead of a screening of the horror film she’s starring in, The Puritan 2.

Kim Carness’s Bette Davis Eyes

This song caps off the film by showing a scene with a disembodied prosthetic hand as a callback to the prequel Pearl‘s ending. The camera then zooms out, showing the studio lot and the Hollywood hills, with the Hollywood sign having been replaced by the word “MaXXXine.” Following this, the credits roll.

MaXXXine was released in theaters by A24 on July 5, 2024.
