“This made me feel sick”: My Wife, My Abuser documentary leaves viewers heartbroken and outraged at disturbing revelations

My Wife, My Abuser: The Secret Footage, the latest documentary from Channel 5 has brought forth the disturbing tale of abuse, where Richard Spencer allegedly went through intense physical and mental torment that lasted for nearly 20 years. The perpetrator in this case was his wife, Sheree Spencer, who reportedly continued her routine torment of her husband for years before Richard spoke out about the same.

In what stands out as a rare and intense example of female violence against a man, the ultimate resolution was also less than satisfactory for most who witnessed the story in My Wife, My Abuser: The Secret Footage. As per records, Sheree Spencer was sentenced to only four years in prison and handed out a restraining order.

The Channel 5 documentary, where Richard Spencer first opens up about the years of torment he faced, has sparked strong fan reactions across the world. Reddit became one of the grounds for discussion, where fans expressed their shock at the incident.

User Available_Fly8187 summed this up, saying:

“This made me feel sick. The fact she was so vile to him was bad enough, but to do it front of the children? All those kids and the husband experienced horrors I can’t comprehend. I really hope they are doing well now and never have to see that monster again.”

Other users had similar things to share after watchingMy Wife, My Abuser.

“I was in tears at times…. And I’m a hard nosed b*tch these days. Physical/mental abuse towards men is STILL swept under the carpet for the most part. To only get 4 years was an absolute insult. Our judicial system is too bloody soft. All that said the victim does have a chance to rebuild their life now.”- another user added.

“I had to stop watching it, I felt physically ill.”- another user said.

“I just watched it. Was absolutely gobsmacked that she only got 4 years. She seemed like she needed some serious help in relation to alcohol abuse and then investigation for anti-social personality disorder. There was just no empathy in her at all.”- another user noted.

The massive outrage speaks volumes about how disturbing the instances of violence against Richard Spencer were as revealed in My Wife, My Abuser: The Secret Footage. Some other Redditors commented:

“I can’t believe how quickly abusers get out and how bad the follow up care for the victims from the police is. (Well I can I know all too well),” wrote one netizen.

“…4 years is a joke of a sentence although here in the UK is more than some people get. We need to normalise abuse on men because it happens way more than we think. I hope that Richard is on the journey of processing what has happened and that him and his kids go on to have a beautiful life without her. I honestly just want to give him the biggest hug!,” read another comment.

My Wife, My Abuser: What did Sheree Spencer do?

As revealed in Channel 5’s My Wife, My Abuser, Sheree Spencer went on a cycle of routine abuse of her husband, Richard Spencer for nearly 20 years.

Over the course of the two decades when Richard lived with Sheree and their three daughters in a six-bedroomed house, he was subjected to repeated brutal assault that included being attacked with a wine bottle, being spat at, punched, hit, and threatened.

Sheree Spencer also left a disfiguring scar on her husband’s ear after one particularly brutal assault. It took Richard years before he revealed the truth to a friend who reportedly encouraged him to report her.

To the authorities, Sheree Spencer tried to portray herself as the victim, but Richard had used the nanny cam to secretly record her numerous drunken outrages, leading the case to sway in his favor.

She was ultimately sentenced to four years in life and was handed a restraining order.

However, the accounts of this abuse, as depicted in My Wife, My Abuser, left fans shocked and disgusted, indicating how bad the real thing actually was.
