Unannounced Star Wars Film Dropped from Disney's 2026 Schedule

In a recent change to Disney’s schedule, an unspecified Star Wars film, previously set for December 2026, has been removed from the studio’s release calendar. In its place, “Ice Age 6” will be released on December 18, 2026.

The change, however, does not affect the release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau, which maintains its planned premiere for May 22, 2026.

Disney currently has several Star Wars universe projects in development. During last year’s Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced three new feature films: a New Republic film directed by Dave Filoni, set in The Mandalorian universe; “Dawn of the Jedi,” under James Mangold’s direction; and a New Jedi Order film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which will bring Daisy Ridley back as Rey in a story set after the events of “The Rise of Skywalker” (2019).

Obaid-Chinoy’s project has undergone recent changes, with the departure of screenwriter Steven Knight, who had replaced Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Rey character remains a priority for Disney, with planned appearances in several future franchise films.

Additionally, X-Men producer Simon Kinberg has been announced as the screenwriter for a new trilogy, which will not be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, as initially speculated.

As for “Ice Age 6,” the film was officially confirmed during D23 Brazil last week. Its release will mark a decade since the last main film in the series, “Collision Course” (2016), although a spin-off, “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild,” was released in 2022.
