CM Punk opened last night’s WWE RAW in Houston, Texas in explosive fashion, delivering another one of his famous pipebombs. However, there is a strong possibility that the World Heavyweight Champion went off script.
The Second City Savior kicked off last night’s show at the Toyota Center, sending harsh messages to Roman Reigns, The Rock, TKO, and Pat McAfee.
Just like in his legendary 2011 promo against John Cena and Vince McMahon—coincidentally also on an episode of WWE RAW—Punk presented himself as an anti-establishment Superstar, confronting WWE management and its parent company, TKO.
Punk took shots at The Rock, claiming he can no longer even be considered a successful Hollywood actor, and also said that Reigns only reached the top because of him and his family. When he mentioned TKO, he also criticized McAfee, stating that WrestleMania 42 ticket prices should be lowered so everyone can attend the event at Allegiant Stadium.
According to PW Insider, a large portion of Punk’s promo was not part of the official script. In other words, the champion acted on his own.
“For those asking about the CM Punk promo last night, PWInsiderElite.com has been told that it was very similar to the original Pipebomb promo, in that the company had a plan for what they expected Punk to say, but then he went out there and cut a different promo.”
Something very similar happened on the previous episode of WWE SmackDown, with Cody Rhodes and Pat McAfee also acting on their own without following the official script proposed by the company’s creative team.
It remains to be seen how Punk will be viewed backstage after last night’s pipebomb, as many names were mentioned by him in the ring.
