2-time WWE champion “absolutely” willing to come out of retirement after more than 9 years

A former WWE Divas Champion recently expressed her desire to return to the squared circle after nearly a decade of in-ring absence. Layla said she wanted to get back for a final hurrah before calling it quits for good.

Layla began her professional wrestling career after winning the Diva Search contest conducted by WWE in 2006. Over the next few years, she slowly rose through the ranks to win both the Divas Title and the WWE Women’s Championship once each. However, the 47-year-old performer decided to suddenly leave wrestling in 2015 and quietly walked away into the sunset.

In recent months, Layla has been vocal about her desire to return. In an appearance on the No Name Wrestling podcast, the veteran explained that though she was reluctant to continue in the business before, she was willing to come back now. Layla added that she wanted to have a final run before age caught up with her.

“Yeah, now there is [a chance],” the former Women’s Champion and Divas Champion responded. “Before, absolutely 100 percent no. I was not open to anything, I wanted a break, I wanted to get away. But now, absolutely. Before I get, like, too old and I can’t come back and do anything. Yeah, one more time,” said Layla. (H/T – F4Wonline)

Many legends, including Bully Ray and Michelle McCool, have returned to the ring in World Wrestling Entertainment under the Triple H-led management. Hence, Layla making a comeback is possible.

Layla wants a LayCool reunion in WWE

Elsewhere in the interview, Layla laid out a pitch for her potential return. She said that she was interested in reuniting with her LayCool partner, Michelle McCool. The 47-year-old star explained that the duo had an enormous fan following back in the day and that viewers would be pleased to see them back together.

“I would honestly come back to do a LayCool reunion. If that is possible and that is something that could happen, why not? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We had a lot of fans when we were together. I would love to reunite with my best friend just one more time,” she said.

Considering the women’s tag team division has been going strong in WWE, it’s safe to assume McCool and Layla joining the ranks could further bolster it.
