3 stars who can defeat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship in 2025

Jon Moxley has been on a path of destruction since he got hold of the AEW World Championship flanked by his Death Riders. The group has made a lot of enemies after dishing out ruthless aggression on the rest of the roster. And now they have a target on their backs as well, especially Moxley.

Many stars in the Jacksonville-based promotion’s roster seem to be gunning for the World Championship, but which of them is most likely to take it off of Mox’s hands?

Here we will look at the three most probable candidates that could defeat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship in 2025:

#3. AEW star Adam Copeland

Starting with the most obvious pick on this list, Adam Copeland made a surprising return at World’s End on December 28, alongside FTR, to attack Moxley and the Death Riders. The Rated-R Superstar now seems to be getting into a proper feud against the current AEW World Champion going into 2025.

The feud could escalate to the level of Copeland challenging Mox to a high-stakes title match sooner rather than later. Tony Khan seems to also put a lot of trust in the former WWE Superstar and could likely make him the one to finally end Moxley’s destructive run as World Champion.

#2. Christian Cage

Christian Cage has been looming over the head of Jon Moxley like a vulture circling its prey moments before it falls. The former TNT Champion has a contract in hand that guarantees him a match for the AEW World Title at any time.

One would think Moxley would be worried about the looming threat and they wouldn’t be far from the truth. In fact, the 39-year-old has the World Championship locked in a briefcase. Even though Cage had been distracted by his feud against Hook lately, it’s only a matter of time before Christian Cage tries to swoop in on the Purveyor of Violence.

Cage could take the World Title off Mox and have the Patriarch hold off the Death Riders from interfering in the cash-in as well.

Darby Allin won’t forget what Jon Moxley and the Death Riders did to him in 2024. Mox and his crew have relentlessly punished the Daredevil but he kept coming back again, and again for more, in an effort to stop the group’s destructive mission in AEW.

The Death Riders took him out again in the final episode of Rampage of 2024, brutalizing him mercilessly. The former TNT Champion will likely return with a vengeance against Moxley and be hellbent on taking the AEW World Championship off him.

Many fans would also love it if Tony Khan finally pulled the trigger on Darby Allin and had him defeat Jon Moxley to be crowned the new World Champion, in a shining moment for the 31-year-old.
