CM Punk added one more feather in his cap tonight. The Straight Edge Superstar finally triumphed over his biggest enemy, Seth Rollins, in a one-on-one match on RAW‘s debut episode on Netflix.
After registering two back-to-back wins against Drew McIntyre, CM Punk recorded his third straight victory, this time over The Visionary on Monday Night RAW. However, the win wasn’t easy as it took two GTS’ from Punk to finally take Seth Rollins down. Now that he has won, CM Punk can focus on his other goals in WWE.
This listicle will discuss four reasons Punk beat Rollins on RAW tonight:
#4. To remind Seth Rollins of his legacy in WWE
Seth Rollins and CM Punk have had heated exchanges, many of which were laden with personal attacks. While Rollins has continued to berate Punk, even calling him a “cancer,” the latter claims that he has no idea from where Seth Rollins’ hatred arises.
In a backstage interview, Punk revealed that all he remembers is a 16-year-old Seth Rollins coming to him asking to be trained by him. Rollins, on the other hand, has slammed Punk for returning to a promotion of which he spoke ill over the past decade. This might not be the final battle between them if Seth Rollins decides to take another shot at his arch-nemesis.
Whatever the future brings, this victory comes as redemption for Punk who can now remind Rollins of his wrestling legacy in WWE and what he is capable of.
#3. To emerge as the top contender for Gunther’s World Heavyweight Title
It has not been decided yet who deserves a title shot at WrestleMania 41 against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. However, with Punk beating Rollins, it is likely he will now challenge The Ring General to a title match at the grand event.
The Voice of The Voiceless even teased going after both Gunther’s and Cody Rhodes’ titles after his match against Rollins. We just might see him challenge one of them on next week’s episode of RAW.
#2. To prepare for another match against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41
Commentator Michael Cole wondered aloud if this would be the final battle between the two mavericks of WWE. But even Cole knows that there is much more to this Punk-Rollins saga, and the two may have another shot at each other at WrestleMania 41.
Like with Drew McIntyre, Punk could have a three-match series with Rollins with the final one at WrestleMania 41. Rollins could challenge The Straight Edge Superstar for another match at Elimination Chamber and steal a victory. With scores tied at 1-1, the two can then go for a mega-clash at WrestleMania 41, which could also be a Last Man Standing Match.
#1. CM Punk could clash with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41
CM Punk’s victory could also help prepare him for a big feud with Roman Reigns that could culminate at WrestleMania 41. It’s well-known that the two don’t see eye-to-eye. The coldness between them was seen by the world when they reluctantly teamed up at Survivor Series: WarGames 2024. In fact, after Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns is arguably CM Punk’s biggest enemy in WWE. The two also have some real-life heat between them.
Roman Reigns’ potential match against The Rock at WrestleMania 41 is uncertain now, and he is also seemingly done with Solo Sikoa. The Tribal Chief can now feud with CM Punk with their rivalry starting on the January 27 episode of RAW when the former Big Dog will formally be acknowledged as the Tribal Chief in a ceremony by Heyman and members of the OG Bloodline. It remains to be seen how CM Punk begins his storyline with Reigns before WrestleMania 41.
