WWE slammed for compromising key SmackDown match
WWE faced internal criticism before last night’s SmackDown due to a decision that may have compromised the outcome of an important WWE Women’s Championship Match.
During the show, the complete bracket for the tournament to determine the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion was revealed. However, Naomi’s inclusion in the tournament caused concern backstage, as she was scheduled to challenge Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship in the main event of the same night.
According to Fightful Select, there were backstage discussions about the timing of the bracket reveal. Some people within the company believed that Naomi’s presence in the tournament would prematurely reveal the outcome of her match against Nia Jax, as she couldn’t participate in the tournament if she became WWE Women’s Champion.
Despite these concerns, WWE maintained the decision to show the complete bracket. As many predicted, Nia Jax retained her title against Naomi.
In the first match of the WWE Women’s United States Championship tournament, Bayley advanced after defeating Candice LeRae and B-Fab. The other first-round matches include: Bianca Belair vs. Chelsea Green vs. Blair Davenport, Jade Cargill vs. Michin vs. Piper Niven, and Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Elektra Lopez.
The first WWE Women’s United States Champion will be crowned in the tournament finals during Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14.
