Randy Orton could take WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes and face John Cena at WrestleMania 41
WWE analyst Sam Roberts has proposed an intriguing scenario involving Randy Orton potentially capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes, setting up a historic WrestleMania 41 bout against John Cena.
During his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts discussed the possibility of The Viper dethroning Rhodes at Royal Rumble 2025. The scenario would see Cena, who recently announced his 2025 retirement tour and Royal Rumble appearance, win the Men’s Royal Rumble Match to challenge Orton.
“Now, we’re talking the what if scenarios are anything from, you know, who’s gonna win the Royal Rumble to face Cody Rhodes? What if Randy Orton takes the title? Now this one has to go. Maybe John Cena wins the Royal Rumble, Randy Orton wins the WWE Championship, now you’ve got your WrestleMania match. There’s so many ways you could go,” Roberts explained.
The American Nightmare is currently involved in a storyline with Kevin Owens and Orton, while Cena prepares for his final run.
Long-awaited WrestleMania showdown could materialize between former rivals
The prospect of Randy Orton facing John Cena at WrestleMania adds another layer to their storied rivalry. Despite both making their main roster debuts in 2002 and engaging in several memorable bouts throughout their careers, including a heated feud in 2009, the two have never clashed at WWE’s premier showcase.
With Cena’s impending retirement tour and his confirmed appearance at Royal Rumble 2025, this potential matchup would provide a fitting chapter in both men’s legendary careers.
The bout would also mark a significant moment for WWE, featuring two of its most decorated champions on its grandest stage.
