Big E could replace Nick Aldis as WWE SmackDown General Manager amid retirement speculation
WWE might be planning a significant shift in SmackDown’s management. The latest episode of the blue brand featured hints about Nick Aldis potentially returning to in-ring competition, leading to speculation about his replacement as General Manager.
Reports suggest Big E could step into the GM role following a potential retirement announcement. The New Day member has been away from WWE since March 2022 due to injury complications, with no clear timeline for his return to competition.
WWE could utilize this situation to bring Big E back in a non-wrestling capacity. A possible scenario involves him announcing his retirement due to ongoing health concerns, followed by his appointment as SmackDown’s new General Manager.
This transition would allow WWE to maintain Big E’s presence while ensuring his well-being. Meanwhile, it would open the door for Aldis to resume his in-ring career. Big E is expected to appear on WWE RAW for The New Day’s 10th anniversary celebration.
The former WWE Champion could also help resolve growing tensions between Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods before potentially beginning his new chapter as SmackDown GM.
Nick Aldis addresses potential in-ring return and current WWE role
During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Nick Aldis shared insights about his current position and future aspirations in WWE. The SmackDown General Manager discussed his approach to the role, which differs from traditional authority figures.
“I had to make it my own. Hunter wanted this to be different. Your General Manager schtick is not going to be the typical authority figure we’ve seen necessarily in the past,” Aldis explained.
Regarding a possible return to competition, Aldis expressed interest while maintaining focus on his current duties. “If and when the time comes, it’ll be what they want and it will hopefully be the right time. I just told them that if you want to do that, I’m ready.”
He also revealed an unplanned moment involving Randy Orton. “It was called on the fly, audible. I’ve never gotten to the bottom of who was behind it. I still feel weird giving away the magic,” Aldis shared about receiving an RKO from Orton during SmackDown in Brooklyn.
