Grayson Waller reveals why he avoids babyface role in WWE

Grayson Waller discussed his perspective on playing a babyface character during his appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. The WWE star expressed strong views about fan interaction and authenticity in pro wrestling.

“The one thing I hate about being a babyface is, like, I don’t think I’d be honest because I think a lot of these babyfaces today have to pretend they love the fans. And I can’t stand the fans. I think wrestling fans are the worst fans in the world. Not the fans who come to have a good time on a Friday with the family and all that kind of stuff, that’s fine. These flop fans online, these smart guys who think they know wrestling, they’re the worst,” Waller stated.

He added: “I feel bad for the good guys who have to pretend they like these people and give them a hug and, you know, sign this stuff at the airport at 3 am. I don’t have to deal with that. So my main thing is, I don’t want to be a babyface, because I don’t want to lie and pretend I like these people. I can’t stand them.”

Waller reveals Conor McGregor influence on MSG debut against Edge

Reflecting on his SmackDown debut at Madison Square Garden against Edge in July 2023, Waller shared how UFC star Conor McGregor’s performance influenced his preparation.

“The weird thing is, and I’ve talked about it before, I was coming off breaking my leg against Melo. I got cleared maybe two weeks before, but we were in London for a bit, and then we did something else, I’d had maybe an hour in the ring,” Waller revealed. “Then I watched a bunch of clips of McGregor in MSG fighting Eddie Alvarez, watched all the videos for the entrance, and just his vibe. I watched the fight three times, and all of a sudden I was feeling myself.”

“That’s not something he has to do. As much as I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t want to kiss ass of the legends, my way of saying thank you to them is saying really horrible things and going at them. I want to be on your level. I feel that’s the biggest respect I can give you is coming at you like everyone else, I don’t want to sit back.”
