Cody Rhodes teases surprises for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event return

WWE Champion Cody Rhodes revealed plans for an eventful Saturday Night’s Main Event during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The iconic show returns to NBC on December 14 from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York.

Rhodes credited WWE management for bringing back the historic show format. “To be able to bring the concept of Saturday Night’s Main Event back and again, our Chief Content Officer Triple H, I think for that evening, him, Nick Khan, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, this trio of management,” Rhodes stated on Fallon’s show, hinting at potential surprises during the broadcast.

The champion’s appearance on The Tonight Show comes as WWE officially announced his Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Kevin Owens at the event. This marks their first singles encounter since their relationship deteriorated following Rhodes’ alliance with Roman Reigns at Bad Blood.

Championship match stems from weeks of escalating tension

The rivalry between Rhodes and Owens intensified after The Prizefighter launched a brutal attack on the champion outside Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.

Owens further demonstrated his aggression by targeting Randy Orton with a piledriver that removed The Viper from television.

Their confrontation reached a boiling point on SmackDown when Rhodes offered Owens multiple dates for their title match. While Owens accepted the challenge, he insisted the match would proceed under his conditions, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense championship collision in Long Island.
