WWE veteran wants Chelsea Green to win major accolade (Exclusive)

Chelsea Green seems to be a fan favorite in the ongoing WWE Women’s United States Championship tournament. The 33-year-old star made it to the next round by surviving a Triple Threat bout last week on SmackDown. She’ll face Bayley next in the semi-final on the road to Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Vince Russo recently discussed Chelsea Green’s involvement in the tournament. The former WWE head writer recently appeared on BroDown on Backstage Pass, where he was asked if he thought Chelsea could potentially become the inaugural Women’s United States Champion.

“I hope so, man. I really, really, really hope so,” said Russo. [32:18 onwards]

Prior to pinning his hope on Chelsea, Russo discussed the outcome of the Triple Threat match featuring Piper Niven, Michin, and Lash Legend from the November 29 episode of SmackDown. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion said the match outcome should’ve been tied to a potential babyface run for Chelsea but believed WWE went with the wrong winner.

“Here’s my thoughts about this match. Mac, who’s buying one ticket to see Michin? Who? Mac, isn’t it more interesting if Piper Niven goes over because Chelsea is already in (the tournament). Why would Michin go over? Nobody cares about this woman,” said Russo. [31:15 onwards]

He continued further, explaining why he thought WWE could’ve used Piper’s win to turn her partner babyface.

“And then, all you had to do was have Piper screw Chelsea Green, and now you’ve got a babyface in Chelsea Green. It’s that simple, but they’re going with Michin that not one person watching this show cares about.” [31:59 onwards]

It remains to be seen if Triple H uses the Women’s United States Championship tournament to plant the seeds for a Chelsea vs. Piper storyline somewhere down the line. Fans will have to wait and watch what happens next.
