Adam Copeland (fka Edge) reportedly files trademark for new AEW name

AEW star Adam Copeland filed an interesting trademark ahead of his return. He revealed his new name on AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen.

The Rated-R Superstar returned to the Worlds End pay-per-view after over seven months of absence from a leg injury. He was revealed as an ally of FTR and confronted Jon Moxley to end the show. On the recent edition of Dynamite, the Rated FTR defeated the Death Riders.

While Copeland was making his way to the ring on Wednesday, the screen displayed his name as ‘Cope.’ Commentators also mentioned his name as the same, which confirmed the name change. Later, a clip from one of his previous interviews with Renee Paquette started making rounds on social media, where he mentioned that he would like his name to be changed to ‘Cope.’

Recently, Mike Dockins, an attorney who helps pro wrestlers with trademarking terms, took to X/Twitter to post a picture with Adam Copeland and reveal the trademark of his new name, Cope.

“Great to see @RatedRCope back tonight! (And in general.) Congrats COPE,” he wrote.

Cope, currently 51, is one of the most successful veterans in AEW. He signed with the company in 2023.

While speaking with Uproxx, the Rated-R Superstar claimed he might retire after one and a half years of in-ring career.

“There’s still some really fun stories to be explored that will probably eat up a year and a half, two years, and then I think it’s going to be time. But again, I can’t sit there and dwell on it. I have to focus on each time I’m in that ring and go, here I am. You’ve got to be in the present,” he said.

It remains to be seen how long the former TNT Champion will use ‘Cope’ as his ring name.
