AEW doesn’t want to do “business” with former WWE star after his comments on Tony Khan, says 41-year-old name (Exclusive)

A former WWE star recently addressed the recent claims surrounding Tony Khan releasing a popular name from AEW due to their differing political opinions. EC3 spoke about Jake Hager’s meltdown, where he branded Khan as a “communist.”

A few weeks back, the former WWE United States Champion got the wrestling world buzzing when he made explosive claims about his AEW exit. Jake Hager’s contract expired in June this year, with the promotion choosing not to renew his deal. Hager wrote that Tony Khan had “threatened” him over his political beliefs.

Though he later deleted his tweets, they had already gone viral on the web by that point. In a recent episode of Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Outlaws, EC3 shared his take on the complicated situation, saying both Jake Hager and AEW were entitled to make their choices. The 41-year-old star also mentioned that Hager had probably made enough money and wasn’t worried about losing his job.

“At the end of the day too, Jake says what he says. You accept the consequences. For the promotion (AEW) too, they have the freedom of expression. You’re absolutely allowed to cancel him. I’m sure got a deposit, so Jake’s not mad at it. They don’t want to do business with him; that’s something he needs to accept, and I’m sure he has,” said EC3. [From 4:00 – 4:25]

Jake Hager on his future after AEW departure

In a recent interview, Jake Hager opened up about what lay ahead for him following his exit from All Elite Wrestling. The 42-year-old star stated that he was keen on pivoting away from wrestling to spend more time with his family. Jake Hager also added that he would like to try his hand at announcing and broadcasting.

“Yeah, it’s interesting. I’m excited to find out. My contract expired with AEW in June, so I just left them. I’m currently working independents, but, I’m 42, and think it’s time to (…) I don’t know, I want to find a way to be home more with my kids, so I’m looking into more business opportunities (…) construction, rental properties (…) I would love to sit down with you, John, and get some pointers about announcing, maybe stay on camera that way, but really just doing what I can,” said Hager.

Hager has been active on the independent circuit in the last few months, and it remains to be seen if WWE comes knocking on his door down the line.
