Acclaim Entertainment, a prominent video game publisher from the 1990s that closed its doors in 2004, has announced its revival after nearly 21 years of dormancy. The publisher revealed its return on Tuesday through a press release.

Jeff Jarrett, AEW star and current Director of Business Development, joins the revitalized company’s advisory board. The former wrestler was previously featured as a playable character in Acclaim’s “WWF Attitude” game.

Jarrett is not the only AEW executive involved in this resurrection. Russell Binder and Mark Caplan are also listed as advisory board members. Caplan currently serves as AEW’s Head of Licensing and Merchandise while maintaining a role with Ridge Partners.

The presence of two AEW executives on Acclaim’s advisory board raises questions about potential involvement in future wrestling video games. The publisher previously developed several wrestling titles including “WWF Warzone,” “WWF Attitude,” “ECW Hardcore Revolution,” and “ECW Anarchy Rulz.”

According to the announcement, Acclaim aims to focus on “supporting indie developers and reigniting classic franchises.” The company previously published popular series including “All Star Baseball,” “Turok,” “NBA Jam,” and “NFL Quarterback Club.”

Alex Josef will lead the revived publisher as CEO. The press release describes Josef as a game industry veteran with over two decades of experience. He joins Acclaim after serving as CEO of Graffiti Games, founded in 2017.

The revived Acclaim’s advisory board now consists of Jarrett, Caplan and Binder, complementing Josef in the executive leadership position.
