AEW Star Reveals One of John Cena’s Big Secrets

Current AEW World Tag Team Champion Shelton Benjamin highlighted John Cena’s exceptional ability to connect with audiences verbally, identifying him as the pinnacle of promo delivery in professional wrestling. Benjamin shared this insight during an appearance on the Energis Podcast.

Benjamin recounted his admiration for Cena’s consistent capacity to captivate any crowd, regardless of the promo’s context, leading him to inquire directly with Cena about his methodology. Cena’s response revealed a straightforward, dedicated approach to perfecting his microphone work.

“John Cena, to me, is the best promo in wrestling,” Benjamin stated. “I use Cena because he’s still one of the faces of pro wrestling, but he’s also from my class. He’s always been a guy; when he talks, he can win over anybody. You put him in any situation, I don’t care what it is, it can be as ridiculous or as serious as you want, [and] he makes it work. I remember sitting back and watching him and going, ‘How does he do that?’ The one time I spoke and asked him about it, he was like, ‘I’m a nerd. I just sit at home and talk to myself in the mirror.'”
