WWE on Netflix: Everything We Know So Far, Explained
For decades, WWE has been a powerhouse in the world of sports entertainment. It has captivated audiences with its unique blend of athleticism, drama, and action. Amid the changing landscape, the Stamford-based promotion has made a monumental move as it signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to broadcast its show on the global streaming giant. However, when is WWE coming to Netflix?
WWE RAW will air on Netflix starting in January 2025. The first episode of the red brand on the streaming platform will air on January 6 next year, kicking off a new season and marking a new era in the world of pro wrestling. According to recent reports, the show will revert to its three-hour format once it moves to Netflix and will stream live on Mondays.
Monday Night RAW has been a hallmark of WWE’s excellence for decades since its debut in 1993. It will be the first time when the show will broadcast on a streaming platform. This partnership will be a massive strategic move for both parties as WWE will gain access to Netflix’s massive user base and cater to a global audience.
The Stamford-based promotion has been at the top of the pro wrestling industry for decades. With its move to Netflix, WWE’s content will get more exposure and spotlight, potentially attracting mainstream fans and expanding its reach worldwide. Fans will have a great viewing experience of the show, considering the wide range of aspects it brings to the table.
However, it all happens when RAW moves to Netflix next year to usher in a new revolution in sports entertainment.
Will WWE SmackDown also move to Netflix shortly?
SmackDown has been WWE’s other major show which airs on Friday nights. The blue brand has also been a source of non-stop entertainment and action with major stars dwelling on the brand. With RAW moving to Netflix next year, fans have been wondering whether SmackDown will also follow suit.
However, that is not the case. SmackDown is set to remain on the USA Network for a long time and it is not moving to Netflix anytime soon. The Stamford-based promotion signed a five-year deal with the popular broadcasting network to feature the blue brand’s show on its platform.
As a result, it kicked off the season premiere of the show this October. The Friday night show will be part of the USA Network till 2029 as the deal is reportedly worth $1.2 billion. However, WWE’s deal with Netflix is exclusively for Monday Night RAW which is valued at around $5 billion.
It will be interesting to see how the landscape of pro wrestling changes in the coming months when WWE’s major shows will air on two entirely different platforms.
