Eddy Thorpe defended his controversial methods for securing an NXT Championship opportunity against Trick Williams during a heated backstage confrontation with General Manager Ava on NXT.
Thorpe revealed he orchestrated a fake attack on himself weeks ago to manipulate his way into the title match. When confronted by Ava about taking shortcuts, Thorpe remained unapologetic about his tactics.
“It doesn’t feel good, does it? Taking the blame for something you didn’t do? You want to know how many times I’ve heard, ‘Work smarter, not harder?’ That’s all I did. You’d probably have screwed me in the Iron Survivor anyways. So, you can call me whatever you want, Ava, but by the end of tonight, you will call me the new NXT Champion,” Thorpe told Ava.
Despite her disapproval of Thorpe’s methods, Ava acknowledged she could not reverse the signed contract for the championship match. Thorpe maintained his strategy was simply working smarter rather than harder to achieve his goals.
The NXT Championship match between Thorpe and Williams is scheduled for later in the broadcast.
