CM Punk needs to get a dose of his own medicine, SmackDown star says
WWE’s CM Punk is a bulletproof babyface in the world of professional wrestling. For him to get there, though, it took many years of standing his ground. Even in 2024, The Best in the World does not really care what others think about him.
This is the energy Grayson Waller loves about the Chicago native. Although the latter may be loved by fans, he is just someone who does not fully adhere to the rules of being a babyface or heel. The Australian has opened up about his desire to work on a program with CM Punk.
Speaking on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Grayson Waller was asked about the stars with whom he wishes to work with. While he put over the tag team division, which he is a part of right now, Waller name-dropped the only man he feels has similarities with him. The Aussie Icon wants Punk to get repulsed by his actions, the same way others felt when the former WWE Champion was in his youth:
“And sometimes that is where the biggest heat lies; it’s when you’re too similar. I think me and Punk have our similarities. But he’s a guy I’d definitely like to stand across from properly. Especially on the mic, like, he’s almost untouched. Just the way he carries himself. He doesn’t care whether he is good or bad, what people think, and I love that energy. But I want to give that back to him,” Waller stated. [From 58:36 to 59:02]
So far, The Aussie Icon has worked with Edge, Rey Mysterio, AJ Styles, and John Cena, among other top stars, in his relatively fresh run in WWE.
Grayson Waller admits he is a huge fan of CM Punk
Breaking character with Chris Van Vliet, Grayson Waller noted how much he enjoys watching CM Punk. He revealed that long before The Straight Edge Superstar returned to WWE in November 2023, he made some noise, hoping that they would eventually work together.
Now that Punk is with the Stamford-based promotion, despite them being separated by the brand split, Waller believes the bout can happen at some point:
“The way CM Punk does his business, the way he talks, I could have so much fun with that. I can feel it. Even the smaller interactions we’ve had—I threw a bit of trash talk at him before he even got here just in case he ever did, and now that he is here, I feel like me and Punk would have a lot of fun.” [From 58:12 to 58:32]
Grayson Waller moved to the main roster only a few months before CM Punk returned to WWE last year. He has since won the WWE Tag Team Championship once alongside Austin Theory. Waller also made a shocking revelation about his partnership with the former United States Champion.
