CM Punk shared his perspective on WWE RAW’s upcoming move to Netflix during Wednesday’s kickoff event at WWE Headquarters. Speaking with Michael Cole, Punk drew parallels between this transition and wrestling’s historic move to cable television.
“Nobody ever thought this would be on cable television,” Punk said, reflecting on the territorial era when wrestling filled venues like Shea Stadium. He emphasized how Saturday Night’s Main Event’s success and sold-out shows at Nassau Coliseum marked a similar pivotal moment for the industry.
Punk highlighted the role of dedicated fans in wrestling’s evolution. “These hardcore fans are the lifeblood of the business,” he stated, adding that Netflix’s global platform could exceed expectations in expanding WWE’s reach, similar to how network television created new fans in the 1980s.
The event concluded with Punk and Seth Rollins engaging in a confrontation. The two competitors are scheduled to face each other at RAW’s Netflix premiere on January 6.
