Cody Rhodes' storyline questioned by ex-WWE writer; Bloodline connection involved

Cody Rhodes’ storyline questioned by ex-WWE writer; Bloodline connection involved

Cody Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022, and the company built up a narrative around his quest to win the world title over the next two years that eventually culminated at WrestleMania XL. Former writer Freddie Prinze Jr. seemingly criticized the creative team’s decision to heavily focus on The Bloodline saga, arguing that it overshadowed The American Nightmare’s championship run.

At this year’s Grandest Stage of Them All, Rhodes defeated the OG Bloodline’s Roman Reigns. The American Nightmare dethroned the 39-year-old star to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.

As if The Rock’s involvement in The Bloodline storyline on the Road to WrestleMania 40 wasn’t enough, more surprises unfolded after the event in Philadelphia. Solo Sikoa took the reins of a revamped Bloodline, recruiting Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu.

On his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, the former WWE writer praised the Bloodline’s storyline, acknowledging its popularity. However, Prinze Jr. questioned the impact of the long-running family saga on other wrestlers, specifically Cody Rhodes. He felt The American Nightmare’s current program had seemingly taken a backseat due to the compelling tale surrounding the Anoa’is.

“It’s the best storyline [Bloodline’s saga] in wrestling. But everybody is talking about that. I want to talk about how it’s so good, it’s making us almost forget about the world champion, Cody Rhodes. His story is what now?” [From 16:46 to 17:02]

Cody Rhodes teamed up with Roman Reigns at WWE Bad Blood

Fans witnessed an unlikely dream tag team in action when The American Nightmare and the OTC combined forces at Bad Blood. The former rivals faced Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu in Atlanta.

At the premium live event on October 5, 2024, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns secured a big win over Fatu and Sikoa in a tag team match after Jimmy Uso’s return to the company.

Following the match, the Sikoa-led group launched an attack on The American Nightmare. However, the OTC and Big Jim saved Rhodes before The Rock made his earth-shattering return.

Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Sami Zayn will be heading to Canada for Survivor Series: WarGames later this month. The OG Bloodline will face Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Solo Sikoa, and Jacob Fatu. Both teams are expected to recruit one member each in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, WWE has not announced whether Cody Rhodes will defend his gold at the premium live event.
