Cody Rhodes subtly references Brock Lesnar & his rumored WrestleMania 41 opponent on SmackDown

Cody Rhodes had a verbal stand-off with an old, forgotten tag team partner on SmackDown, resulting from the “Transfer Window.” He subtly referenced Brock Lesnar and his rumored WrestleMania opponent.

As you probably know, Cody Rhodes’ story with Brock Lesnar ended in 2023 after their incredible feud culminated with Rhodes winning the third of their trilogy of matches at SummerSlam. One superstar he has crossed paths with before but could have a major feud with is John Cena, the Greatest of All Time. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE looks to be focusing on a Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena match at WrestleMania 41.

When talking tonight, Drew McIntyre appeared friendly and helpful towards The American Nightmare. Despite this, Cody rejected Drew and addressed their history briefly. The quote below highlights subtle references to Brock Lesnar and John Cena. The last line, in particular, was a modification of the “You want some, come get some” line that Cena made famous:

“It’s safe to say that we’re both kindred spirits. We both had to leave here, scrape ourselves up off the mat, make something of ourselves, come back, and finish our stories. I’d love to say that over the last two-three years, you’ve become a beast not only on the microphone but also in the ring. I’d love to say all of that, Drew, but I don’t believe you. I don’t believe you and I can just feel this tension. I can feel this situation. It’s certainly going to devolve. So let’s go ahead and cut right through it. You want to throw hands? You want a shot at this championship? Everybody wants it. Drew, come get it.”

McIntyre’s intentions certainly weren’t as bad as they seemed, but he still said nothing against Cody Rhodes and made no effort to attack him. Instead, he simply told him to watch his back seconds before Kevin Owens launched an assault on the Undisputed WWE Champion.

As of now, Cody isn’t medically cleared but he is expected to be soon enough.
