Dusty Rhodes was apparently right about Cody Rhodes from the beginning. Arn Anderson recently revealed a private conversation he had with the WWE legend about the American Nightmare.
Cody Rhodes has been on a meteoric rise since returning to the WWE at WrestleMania 38. He won back-to-back Royal Rumble matches and then main-evented the show twice. Additionally, the American Nightmare was the one who ended Roman Reigns’ historic title reign to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. Cody is currently the poster boy for the Stamford-based promotion since he is the top star of the company. Unfortunately, Dusty Rhodes isn’t around to see his son’s growth in the business but he always believed in him.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Arn Anderson revealed a private conversation with Dusty Rhodes when Cody first started in the business. He recalled the WWE legend telling him his son had what it took to be a top star in the industry.
âHe told me when they first pulled him up and they put him with [Ted DiBiase Jr.] and stuff, Dusty would tell me â when I would see him, Iâd look at him and Iâd go, âHeâs had him on a loop drain this week, heâs doing good and everything.â He would look at me with no fear and go, âHeâs got it. The kidâs got it.â It wasnât to elicit a positive response from me, he was just saying point blank he knew Cody had what it took to work on top in this business,â Anderson recalled. Arn Anderson on Cody Rhodes’ work ethic
Being the son of Dusty Rhodes put Cody in a tough spot. As a second-generation wrestler, the latter had to work just as hard to step out of his famous father and brother’s shadows. Even after climbing to the top of the mountain in WWE, the American Nightmare retains the same work ethic that made him a top star.
Speaking on the same podcast, Arn Anderson said that Cody Rhodes had to work much harder since he was a second-generation wrestler to prove to people that he deserves to be in the business.
âIn this business, you have to do a lot extra. You gotta be a harder worker, you gotta strive to be a better worker and if youâre a second-generation [wrestler] youâre gonna come in with baggage âcause most guys will be thinking you got a free ride.â [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Cody Rhodes is set to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens in a ladder match at the Royal Rumble.
