Nic Nemeth disclosed details about his WWE departure during a recent interview with Daily Star, revealing he personally requested his release despite having significant time remaining on his contract.
WWE was so great. I still had a year and a half left on my contract, and I said, ‘Please.’ I told them, ‘I’m not doing anything here. I’m just hanging out and doing cold five-minute matches.
Nemeth explained his decision stemmed from wanting to pursue more substantial opportunities.
I don’t know how much longer I’m a believable world champion for any other company. I might have five more years, I might have two, I might have ten, I don’t know. But sitting here collecting a paycheck and working for five minutes a week is not helping WWE, and it sure as hell isn’t helping me.
Since his departure in September 2023, Nemeth has captured multiple championships across various promotions, including the AAA Mega Championship, IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship, and WSW World Heavyweight Championship.
Nemeth successfully retained the TNA World Championship against AJ Francis at Final Resolution. The match showcased both competitors’ contrasting styles, with Nemeth eventually securing victory through a combination of a superkick and his Danger Zone finisher.
The post-match developments saw Joe Hendry intervene when KC Navarro and Francis attempted to attack Nemeth. Hendry, who earlier earned a championship opportunity, confronted Nemeth in a tense face-off. TNA officials have confirmed their championship match for the Genesis pay-per-view on January 19.
