WWE Superstar Finn Balor took out the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther on the latest edition of Monday Night RAW. The Judgment Day member recently shared a social media update, mocking The Ring General.

In a backstage segment, the 43-year-old asked Gunther for a title shot in return for helping him defeat Damian Priest at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames. The champion, however, turned down the challenge and instead stated he would ask Adam Pearce to book him in a match with Dominik Mysterio for later on the show. Although ‘Dirty’ Dom put up a great fight, he could not secure the win against The Imperium leader.

After the match, Finn Balor jumped in and attacked Gunther and hit the latter with the Coup de Grace thrice. The World Tag Team Champion took to Instagram Stories to further mock The Ring General by sharing a picture of himself while executing his finisher.

“From Finn, with love,” he wrote.

Former WWE writer criticizes Finn Balor going after the World Heavyweight Championship

After Finn Balor took out Gunther, WWE announced that the two would compete in a World Heavyweight Championship Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. This booking decision did not go well with former WWE head writer Vince Russo.

On the latest edition of Legion of RAW, Russo mentioned that Balor and McDonagh have barely defended the World Tag Team Championship they won in June. He criticized the creative team for having Finn go after a singles title instead. The 63-year-old suggested that The War Raiders should have defeated The Judgment Day members for the title last week.

“Chris, the tag champs have defended the belts twice in six months. Come on, guys, like seriously. I’m not being a hard ‘you know what,’ but this stuff is ridiculous. And then, on tonight’s show, the guy who defended the tag titles twice in the past six months now has a shot against Gunther? Come on, guys! Don’t sit there and tell me this is brilliant booking. It’s not. […] And Chris, if you know where you’re going, okay, New Day’s turning heel, okay, we’re going to go with Finn and Gunther at Saturday Night’s [Main Event], okay. Well, then, The Viking Raiders should have won the belts,” he said. [From 36:00 onwards]

Finn Balor has not held a singles title since his US Championship triumph in early 2022. It will be interesting to see if he can dethrone Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14.
