In a career-defining performance at Night of Champions, Jade Cargill defeated Asuka to win the 2025 Queen of the Ring tournament. The victory, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, guarantees Cargill a world championship match at SummerSlam in August.
The win marks the first time Cargill will challenge for a singles title in WWE. Following the contest, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis presented her with the tournament crown. In a post-match interview, Cargill made her intentions clear.
“A storm is coming for SummerSlam,” she stated, directly referencing her plans to challenge the current WWE Women’s Champion, Tiffany Stratton.
The final match was a classic battle of styles, pitting the technical expertise of Asuka against the pure power of Cargill. Asuka controlled the early portion of the match, grounding her larger opponent with a series of submission holds. Cargill used her strength advantage to escape and answer with high-impact offense, including a spinebuster and a chokeslam, but was unable to secure the victory.
Later in the match, Asuka locked in her signature Asuka Lock, but Cargill powered her way out of the hold. The decisive moment came when Cargill caught Asuka in mid-air during a hip attack attempt, hoisted her onto her shoulders, and delivered her Jaded finisher for the pinfall.
Both women navigated a difficult tournament field to reach the final. Cargill’s path included a victory over Nia Jax, Michin, and Piper Niven in a Fatal 4-Way match, followed by a semifinal win against Roxanne Perez. Asuka, who recently returned from a year-long injury, triumphed over Stephanie Vaquer, Raquel Rodriguez, and Ivy Nile before defeating Alexa Bliss to advance.
