Ricochet expressed no negative feelings about being crowned the first-ever WWE Speed Champion during his final months with the company. The now-AEW wrestler addressed the topic in a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez.

Some fans had viewed the booking decision as a potential downgrade for Ricochet, who had rarely appeared on television since his loss to Logan Paul at SummerSlam 2023. However, the high-flying performer maintained a positive perspective on the opportunity.

No… You got to look at everything as an opportunity and if you don’t, then I think you’re already kind of defeated. You have to look at everything — especially, you know, they were putting something into this and I wanted to be a part of, again, building something. Building something and making it as big as possible. I like that feeling and so, again, any opportunity you get, you gotta strike and that’s kind of the way I see it and that’s with everything. Life, wrestling, everything.

Ricochet had previously held the Intercontinental Championship during his six-year WWE tenure before departing for AEW.

In a separate interview late last year, Ricochet made a notable claim about his impact on the wrestling industry. The high-flyer suggested AEW as an entity would not exist without his work on the independent scene.

While he acknowledged he wasn’t solely responsible for the promotion’s creation, Ricochet stated he played a significant role in establishing the foundation for All Elite Wrestling.
