Former WWE Superstar claims Stone Cold Steve Austin took a gimmick intended for him
WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the most popular performers in professional wrestling history. The Texas Rattlesnake has been part of many memorable moments in addition to the multiple titles he has won over the years. However, one of his previous monikers was apparently slated to be for another star.
The real-life Steven James Williams debuted in the Stamford-based wrestling promotion under the name The Ringmaster. He used the name for over a year before switching to the “Stone Cold” Steve Austin gimmick. Former WWE Superstar Adam Bomb recently revealed that the name The Ringmaster was originally offered to him.
In an interview with Teddy Long and Mac Davis on Road Trip After Hours, the two-time WCW World Tag Team Champion stated that WWE offered him three different ring names, including The Ringmaster. The 60-year-old further explained why he chose the name Adam Bomb:
“There were three [names he was presented with]. There was one that sort of tied my military career to a character. The second one was Adam Bomb. The third one was The Ringmaster.” He continued, “Back in those days, what they did is they trademarked a lot of names. Adam Bomb, and of course, Steve Austin’s gimmick later on, of course, but they sort of had that in the bank, and they brought it out, but that was one of the names. At the time, I felt of the three, I think that I could do the most with Adam Bomb, being a Three Mile Island deal with a nuclear monster. I felt like I could do a lot more with it. So that’s why I chose that one.”[H/T:WrestlingNews.co]
