Former WWE writer says Damian Priest’s momentum stalled after Survivor Series loss

Freddie Prinze Jr. critiqued WWE’s handling of Damian Priest following his World Heavyweight Championship match at Survivor Series: WarGames. The former WWE writer expressed concerns about Priest’s direction after his loss to Gunther.

The match ended in similar fashion to their SummerSlam encounter, with Finn Bálor’s interference backfiring. Bálor’s Coup de Grace on Priest outside the ring led to Gunther connecting with a boot to retain his championship.

“So apparently, we’re going to get the destruction of Finn Bálor, or maybe the destruction of Damian Priest. I would assume that it’s the destruction of Finn Bálor to keep Damian strong,” Prinze Jr. said on his Wrestling with Freddie podcast.

The former writer noted the crowd’s minimal reaction to Bálor’s interference, suggesting the storyline had exceeded its natural conclusion. Despite his criticisms, Prinze Jr. remained optimistic that WWE could salvage the situation and potentially surprise fans with upcoming developments.

According to Prinze Jr., the current booking could force Priest to restart his journey toward championship contention. He suggested the ongoing tension between Priest and Bálor might lead to a definitive confrontation between the former Judgment Day stablemates.
