Former WWE head writer Vince Russo challenged Triple H’s recent statement comparing WWE’s current success to The Attitude Era during an episode of Writing with Russo.
Triple H claimed on The Roommates Show that WWE’s current era exceeds The Attitude Era (1997-2001) in scale. Russo disputed this assertion, specifically addressing the ratings comparison.
“People who are so entrenched in the wrestling bubble have no idea how casual fans look at this stuff. You can say whatever you want, bro, 1.3 million people watch RAW. Monday Night football, both teams were out of it. 1.3 million people, and Triple H is going to say that this is bigger than The Attitude Era? If The Attitude Era was drawing 1.3 million people, I would have been fired from my job,” Russo stated.
Dr. Chris Featherstone countered Russo’s perspective, noting that while The Attitude Era achieved higher television ratings, modern WWE has established larger international business agreements.
During the same Roommates Show appearance, Triple H also discussed his first impression of Roman Reigns, recalling a conversation with Dusty Rhodes: “If that kid’s not the biggest star we ever have in 10 years, I don’t know what we’re doing. Like, holy s**t! He’s got everything. When he walked in the room, you couldn’t help but look and go, ‘Who’s that?’ He has an innate X-factor charisma.”
