Gable Steveson addresses WWE departure and potential future return

Gable Steveson discussed his brief WWE tenure following his May 2024 release. The Olympic gold medalist’s sole televised bout occurred against Baron Corbin at NXT Great American Bash in July 2023, following his September 2021 signing.

After departing WWE, the 24-year-old joined the NFL’s Buffalo Bills but was waived in late August. Steveson has since announced his return to collegiate wrestling with the Minnesota Gophers.

During a press conference at the University of Minnesota, Steveson reflected on his experiences with WWE and the Bills.

“The WWE, just wasn’t the right time. I had a lot of competitive edge in me and they knew that and it was just — it was not the time for it and so maybe one day if the stars are aligned, it’ll be a great opportunity to do it again,” Steveson said.

Jon Jones sees MMA potential in Gable Steveson

UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones praised Steveson’s abilities at the UFC 309 post-show press conference, highlighting his potential in mixed martial arts.

“He’s gonna be scary when he decides to do MMA. He knows how to make men appear very weak. Me being one of ’em,” Jones said. The champion suggested that with boxing and jiu-jitsu training, Steveson could capture UFC gold.

Jones emphasized the value Steveson would bring to any training facility. “Whoever has him are going to be very blessed to have him. He’s an asset,” Jones added.
