“I knew nobody was going to tell me” – Austin Theory reveals moment he found out something surprising backstage at WWE
Austin Theory recently discussed his unexpected name modification during his appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. The WWE star shared how he discovered his name had been shortened to just “Theory” upon reaching the main roster.
“On the main roster, it was funny walking in one day. Someone hands me what I’m doing, and I read it. I’m like, ‘wait, Theory?’ Like I’m just Theory now?’ The guy says, ‘yeah, I thought they would have told you.’ I knew nobody was going to tell me,” Theory explained. He mentioned having to address the situation before eventually getting his full ring name restored.
Money in the Bank Victory Came as Last-Minute Surprise
The connection between Theory’s name change and unexpected opportunities continued when he captured the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2022. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Theory revealed he learned about his participation in the ladder bout on the same day.
“People looked at me crazy after my bout with Bobby Lashley. Then I was told to join everyone for Money in the Bank,” Theory recalled. “Next thing I know, I’m standing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, holding the briefcase.” Theory admitted while Money in the Bank was his favorite match growing up, the physical toll changed his perspective on the ladder bout.
