“I won’t name them” – Controversial star claims he’s working closely with several AEW performers

A major controversial star has claimed that he’s working closely with AEW performers. This star once had a promising future.

Marty Scurll was once a rising star in the independent scene. Between 2010 and 2020, he worked for some of the top wrestling promotions in the world including TNA Wrestling, NJPW, ROH, and NWA. However, his meteoric rise came to a screeching halt after his name was called out during the #SpeakingOut movement. While Scurll has since apologized for his role in it, it’s hard to think that this didn’t affect his career. However, he is still involved in wrestling and even works closely with several top stars.

During a recent interview with Thats Wrestling, Marty Scurll said that he works hands-on with different guys from AEW and WWE. While he didn’t mention anyone by name, he said that he offers creative direction for their characters, helps them hone their gimmicks and personalities, and helps them with their promos. He further added that he loves being part of the creative process and is passionate about it.

“I like to work hands-on with different talents. That’s actually something I still do now. Um, you know, I have a few different guys—some in AEW, some in WWE. I won’t name them, but I help them out creatively, coming up with their gimmicks, their personalities, and helping them with promos. I work on everything—coming up with ideas, helping with their move sets, all that stuff. I kind of work hands-on with a bunch of talent. I love doing that. Being part of creative and getting to work with talent to bring out the best in them is something I’m really passionate about.” [H/T Ringside News]

Marty Scurll revealed why he never joined AEW

Marty Scurll wrestled for ROH for several years between 2016 and 2021. He was even their head booker. Hence, when All Elite Wrestling bought ROH, many fans expected to see Scurll join Tony Khan’s promotion but it never happened, which surprised a lot of people. However, Scurll has a reason for why he never signed with the Jacksonville-based promotion.

During the same interview with Thats Wrestling, Marty Scurll said that he knew AEW was going to be bigger than ROH but he wasn’t interested in becoming famous and just wanted to be known as a good wrestler. He further added that he could’ve gone to All Elite Wrestling and become one of the many guys on the roster but he chose to stay in ROH since the company put their faith in him.

“I think that’s something people don’t realize. I felt like a lot of people were like, ‘Why didn’t you sign with AEW? I can’t believe you stayed with Ring of Honor. It’s like I knew AEW was going to be a bigger company, but I never necessarily got interested to be like famous or anything. I just wanted to be known as a good wrestler, if that makes sense. I guess famous for wrestling, but either way to me it was kind of like, Okay, I can go to AEW and I can be one of many other wrestlers, but this company has put the faith in me and the trust to be the head booker, and working in creative, along with being a wrestler, was one of my lifelong dreams.'” [From 18:33 – 19:21]

It will be interesting to see if Marty Scurll ever does make his All Elite Wrestling debut in the future.
