Is Kevin Owens suspended? Exploring his WWE status after injuring Randy Orton on SmackDown
Kevin Owens has a t-shirt that says, “Kevin is right,” and it may be the case, but KO went too far last week on SmackDown. Pulling out a banned maneuver in the Piledriver, The Prizefighter hit Randy Orton with it, severely injuring him. The Viper had to be rushed to a local hospital, raising concerns about his well-being.
With each passing day, several questions have arisen about the situation. The burning question among them is if KO has been suspended. The answer to that question, as of this writing, is in the negative. As things stand, it is believed that SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis is mulling over the situation. Plenty of fans have called for Kevin Owens’ suspension. However, it is a tough decision, especially considering the current circumstances.
Yes, Kevin Owens did use a banned move on Randy Orton, but it must be noted that The Apex Predator was given a fair warning by WWE about the possible repercussions if he engaged with The Prizefighter. Randy was the one who called out KO, and he was the one who goaded him into the ring. What’s more? Triple H himself had warned Orton about what was in store for him should The Viper go after the former Universal Champion.
Add to that the fact that Aldis has lost several male stars in recent times for different reasons, and it’s easy to understand why he might be wary about handing out suspensions.
But as things stand, this is nothing more than speculation, and we will have to wait till Friday to find out what the final decision is.
Kevin Owens will likely set his sights on Cody Rhodes now
Assuming no suspension is handed out this Friday, it’s important to remember what kicked off Kevin Owens’ descent into madness. After all, it has everything to do with Cody Rhodes and his decision to team up with KO’s long-time nemesis, Roman Reigns. An act that Owens deemed the ultimate betrayal.
Frustrated by The American Nightmare’s decision, KO attacked Rhodes in the parking lot after Bad Blood went off the air. This led to his confrontation with Randy Orton, who seemingly chose to side with Cody over his former tag-team partner. Fast forward to today, and with The Viper out of the picture, the path to Cody is now clear for Kevin.
KO would now likely set his sights on the Undisputed WWE Champion, and the latter would be aware of it. Cody would do well to be wary of a potential attack from Owens in the upcoming episode of SmackDown.
However, as Triple H previously stated, The Prizefighter is more unhinged than he ever was before. Even due diligence may not be enough to save The American Nightmare.
