John Cena needs to become World Champion in 2025 for THIS reason, says WWE personality

Many fans once despised John Cena owing to his ‘Super Cena’ persona, which meant he always picked up the win and took home the WWE Championship. But his win-loss track record in the last decade has gotten the same fans to the point where they want him to reclaim the top spot in the Stamford-based promotion.

WWE analyst Sam Roberts has now brought up the most important reason why John Cena needs to become World Champion in 2025. It does not have anything to do with Cena himself but with another athlete who has proved why he needs a monumental win. His name is Drew McIntyre. According to Roberts, Cody Rhodes does not need a win over Cena, but McIntyre does.

Speaking on his podcast Notsam Wrestling, Sam Roberts admitted that he does not necessarily want Cena to defeat Cody Rhodes or Gunther at WrestleMania 41. However, if the 47-year-old wins the belt, he can have another ‘Super Cena’ run for old times’ sake, and ultimately lose it to The Scottish Warrior towards the end of his Farewell Tour:

“I want the realization to set in that the best wrestler in 2024 was Drew McIntyre. And we get to the end of 2025, he’s even better than he was in 2024. But he doesn’t have the championship. John Cena does, and it makes Drew McIntyre absolutely sick. It reminds him of his young days in the WWE.” [From 50:48 to 51:10]

Sam Roberts even proposed an idea for Survivor Series later this year, where John Cena loses the strap to Drew McIntyre. For this hypothetical scenario to become a reality, Cena does not necessarily have to win any World Title at WrestleMania 41 in April.

Triple H talks about John Cena’s WWE Farewell Tour ahead of RAW on Netflix

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H revealed that John Cena wants what is best for the company. At this stage, Cena does not care much about anything else.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated’sJimmy Traina, Triple H noted that he wants Cena’s Farewell Tour to be as good as it can get for the 16-time World Champion. He also added that the 47-year-old will give more details about his final run in the company on this week’s RAW.

“I just want it to be great for John [Cena]. I want it to be great for fans, but first and foremost, I want John, when he gets to the end of this one-year run to say, ‘That was the perfect out. That was the perfect last run. I did all the things I wanted to do. I performed the way I wanted to perform. I did all that stuff.’ […] I think on Monday Night [RAW], he’s going to give a lot of clarity into what that year would be like for him,” he said.

John Cena and The Rock have been announced for tonight’s show. Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Drew McIntyre will compete. Interestingly, McIntyre was seen on SmackDown this past Friday, where he confronted Cody Rhodes. Was this a subtle tease for what is to come later this year?
