The wrestling world loves a good crossover story, and the latest buzz involves one of the industry’s most iconic figures potentially making a surprise appearance at a competitor’s ceremony. With WrestleMania 41 approaching, questions are swirling about whether an AEW-contracted legend might cross promotional lines to honor an old friend at WWE’s biggest weekend of the year.
When asked directly about the possibility of Sting appearing at the WWE Hall of Fame to induct Lex Luger, AEW President Tony Khan kept his cards close during the AEW Dynasty media scrum.
I’m not sure. I’m very focused on AEW Dynasty. I talked to Sting recently before AEW Revolution, looking back on some great memories. We caught up on the phone right around the pay-per-view and that was the last time we had spoken. Haven’t heard from him about that. Certainly, he’s doing very well, and that relationship and friendship means so much to me, and we’re all very grateful for Sting. The last time I talked to Sting, that didn’t come up. Would have to talk to him about that.
The situation stems from WWE’s announcement of Lex Luger’s induction into their 2025 Hall of Fame class. Reports indicate WWE has been making overtures to secure Sting, who’s under an AEW legends contract following his retirement at last year’s Revolution event, as the person to induct his longtime friend and former rival.
This potential crossover highlights the evolving landscape of professional wrestling, where once-rigid company boundaries occasionally bend for special moments. Khan’s non-committal response leaves the door open, suggesting this isn’t an automatic rejection. For wrestling fans, the possibility of seeing Sting at a WWE function represents one of those rare moments where business considerations might take a backseat to honoring the legacy and relationships that helped build the industry. The ball appears to be in Sting’s court now.
