Major Update Released on Kenny Omega’s Health Status Ahead of AEW All In: Texas

As he prepares for a historic, winner-take-all championship match, AEW International Champion Kenny Omega has provided a candid update on his persistent health issues, framing his physical condition as a “day-to-day” challenge. Six months after returning from a career-threatening bout of diverticulitis, Omega is navigating the difficult reality of performing at an elite level while still in recovery.

The former world champion detailed the specific challenges he faces during an interview on Wrestling Observer Radio. He explained that internal complications from his illness continue to affect his in-ring capabilities.

“I have these adhesions in my stomach, quite a few, and when you’re breathing heavy, when you have to use a lot of core, when you have to twist, when you have to stretch, the adhesions that are binding to my inner organs, they’re pulling apart, and it’s causing a lot of discomfort, kinda sorta like a lot of flu like symptoms to emerge.”

Despite the physical limitations, Omega stressed that he tries not to draw attention to his condition during matches and does not want to alter fans’ perception of his work.

“I don’t want people to feel scared or sorry for me, or I don’t want anyone’s opinion of a match to be hampered because I simply just can’t move consistently as fast all the time. There’s still a number of issues I’m working through, and it’s really day to day.”

Omega’s openness about his health comes just over a week before he is set to face his legendary rival, Kazuchika Okada, at AEW All In on July 12. The match will unify the AEW International and Continental Championships. Despite his private struggles, Omega made a public vow following a recent episode of AEW Dynamite to compete at the event.

“There was a real worry that I wouldn’t make it to All In… but come on guys, gals and everything in between, you know I wouldn’t miss this party for the world. I would be at All In regardless of my health and vowed to win the AEW Unified Championship.”

Since returning to action in January 2025, Omega has maintained a demanding schedule. He captured the AEW International Title from Konosuke Takeshita at Revolution in March and has had several high-profile defenses, all while managing the lingering effects of his illness. He affirmed that AEW management understands his situation, ensuring his health remains a top priority.

“Knowing my own limits and being okay I do have a limit is what’s important. And again I’m also very lucky I have a boss that has an understanding of that…my safety and health is always paramount to the company.”
