MVP Says He Left TNA Under “Terrible Circumstances”

Montel Vontavious Porter, known as MVP, recently shed light on the reasons behind his departure from TNA Wrestling, attributing it to significant issues with the company’s management.

During a recent episode of his “Marking Out” podcast, MVP detailed the conclusion of his tenure with the promotion, which he described as ending under unfavorable conditions.

“I left Impact under terrible circumstances,” MVP stated. “Some really bulls** with management, one person in particular.”*

His time in TNA began in January 2014 when he was introduced as an on-screen investor, a move that immediately led to him bringing The Wolves to the company. By May of that year, MVP turned heel, attacking then-World Champion Eric Young, and later formed the Beat Down Clan in January 2015. Despite his prominent role, he never captured the TNA World Championship.

The Hernandez Situation

While MVP cited a general conflict with management, reports from his 2015 exit point to a more specific incident. The catalyst was reportedly a contract dispute involving Hernandez, whom MVP had advocated for TNA to sign. It was later discovered that Hernandez was still under contract with Lucha Underground when he agreed to terms with TNA.

This conflict forced TNA to release Hernandez and re-edit television segments he had filmed. According to reports, MVP took internal responsibility for the situation, which culminated in his contract being terminated, though MVP has maintained he quit. Years later, in 2017, MVP described TNA as a positive force in wrestling that was consistently hindered by mismanagement.

Currently, MVP is a key figure in AEW, managing The Hurt Syndicate, which features MJF, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley. His move to AEW in late 2024 followed his exit from WWE, which he has publicly attributed to dissatisfaction with the creative direction under Paul “Triple H” Levesque, specifically the decision not to reunite The Hurt Business. He has been actively involved in AEW storylines throughout 2025 and recently challenged for a tag team title match at the upcoming All In: Texas event.
