An on-screen wrestling personality made some controversial remarks against AEW and Tony Khan during a recent show. He is now on an “indefinite hiatus.”
New Japan Pro-Wrestling commentator Chris Charlton got into some hot waters recently for comments he made against Tony Khan. The AEW boss is responsible for building his company into the second-biggest wrestling promotion in the United States. One of the things they have done to grow their brand is by forging partnerships with other promotions like NJPW, CMLL, and others. Khan has also spared no expense in hiring top-class talent from around the world.
During the initial years of AEW, Khan hired wrestlers who were let go from WWE during that time, such as Jon Moxley. However, in the past year, the company has recruited the best wrestlers from NJPW such as Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada. This move did not sit well with Chris Charlton. This weekend, while he was on commentary for the Kenny Omega and Gabe Kidd match at Wrestle Dynasty, he referred to Tony Khan as a “money mark”. This was not appreciated by people backstage.
Dave Meltzer has now taken to his X (fka Twitter) account to provide an update on the situation. He said that Chris Charlton was now on an “indefinite hiatus” due to his comments against AEW at Wrestle Dynasty.
“Chris Charlton is on an indefinite hiatus from commentary due to his anti-AEW comments during the Dynasty show.”

Tony Khan commented on the success of Wrestle Dynasty
This past weekend, NJPW hosted Wrestle Dynasty in collaboration with AEW and CMLL. As a result, the show boasted a stacked card and featured some stellar matches. One of the most anticipated clashes of the night was the return of Kenny Omega who faced off against Gabe Kidd in a brutal contest. The show turned out to be a massive success.
Following the conclusion of the show, Tony Khan took to X/Twitter to express his excitement at the return of The Cleaner. He also thanked everyone for making the show a huge success.
“Welcome back to pro wrestling, @KennyOmegamanX! So many of the best of @njpw1972 + @we_are_stardom+ @CMLL_OFICIAL + @ringofhonor + @AEW + the wrestling fans have all come together to make this an amazing show! Thank you all watching WrestleDynasty on @njpwworld + @FiteTV now,” he wrote.
