Possible reason why Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned heel explained by ex-WWE star (Exclusive)

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods separated from Big E on the December 2, episode of WWE RAW. Former WWE star EC3 recently gave his thoughts on the logic behind The New Day moving in a different direction after 10 years together as a faction.

Big E, Kingston, and Woods cemented their status as one of the most popular WWE stables of their generation. This week, Big E returned on RAW and offered to manage Kingston and Woods in a bid to unite the dysfunctional duo. However, they rejected his request and made it clear they did not need him.

EC3 appeared on Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Outlaws with host Dr. Chris Featherstone and former WWE writer Vince Russo. Speaking before The New Day’s segment aired, he said now is the right time for Kingston and Woods’ characters to evolve:

“As a performer, 10 years of doing that act, you get it and you know, ‘I’m just rehashing the same old stuff,’ especially 10 years on the road with the WWE,” EC3 stated. “They had big angles and big moments and they’ve always had a spot. I think a lot of the time Vince is right with creative being inept. It’s like, ‘We need good guys to do something stupid here. Ah, send The New Day, whatever.'” [4:51 – 5:17]

EC3 on Xavier Woods’ creative approach

Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods have performed as babyfaces and heels during their WWE careers. However, they are best known for being fan favorites.

Having worked with Woods in the early 2010s, EC3 thinks the former King of the Ring winner has wanted to turn heel for a long time:

“That act can become worn thin when the creative behind it is lackluster. There’s nothing the talent can do, short of like what they’re told, but I would also say those three talents, and especially Woods, has probably been chomping at the bit, creatively pondering and evaluating what someday a big turn would be and how they can do like a masterclass and a whole reinvention and reignition of, I don’t know, a new arc and a new evolution, so to speak.” [5:17 – 5:48]

EC3 also gave his opinion after Vince Russo dismissed Xavier Woods’ chances of becoming a main-event talent as a singles competitor.
