Roman Reigns’ dominant run in WWE encountered several challenges throughout 2024, marked by underwhelming matches and storyline complications. The former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion’s year showed notable contrasts to his acclaimed 2021-2023 period.
At Royal Rumble 2024, Reigns’ final successful title defense against LA Knight, Randy Orton, and AJ Styles fell short of expectations. The match structure, which included interference from Solo Sikoa, failed to deliver the decisive victory promised by The Tribal Chief.
The Road to WrestleMania XL demonstrated another shift in momentum. While the event culminated in Cody Rhodes defeating Reigns, the storyline primarily centered on The Rock’s transformation into The Final Boss. The rivalry between Rhodes and The Final Boss overshadowed Reigns’ presence in the narrative.
Post-WrestleMania developments presented additional complications. The reformation of The OG Bloodline, featuring Jimmy Uso’s return at Bad Blood, proceeded at an accelerated pace. The swift reconciliation between Jey Uso and Jimmy, followed by Sami Zayn’s unexpected alignment with the group, left several narrative elements unexplored.
Reigns’ only singles match in 2024, the WrestleMania XL main event against Rhodes, became notable for its extensive outside interference. While the match concluded Rhodes’ story, the involvement of multiple superstars, including John Cena, The Undertaker, and The Rock, overshadowed the in-ring performance.
WWE confirms Ula Fala match for RAW debut on Netflix
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports WWE has abandoned plans to create a Tribal Chief Championship. Instead, Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa will compete for the Ula Fala on WWE RAW’s Netflix premiere. Dave Meltzer provided insight into the decision:
Regarding reports about the creation of a new Tribal Chief title, we were informed that this will not happen. However, there will be a contest for the Ula Fala, which makes more sense within the storyline.
The match is set for January 6, 2025, at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The Rock’s potential involvement remains contingent on his movie schedule, with WrestleMania plans still undetermined.
