Scott Steiner had real backstage fight with WWE legend, Buff Bagwell recalls
Scott Steiner is widely viewed as one of the most intense wrestlers of all time. Former WCW star Buff Bagwell recently recalled how Big Poppa Pump once got involved in a real-life altercation with Diamond Dallas Page (DDP).
Bagwell was preparing to cut a promo alongside Lex Luger and Steiner in WCW when he noticed the latter exchanging words backstage with DDP. Seconds later, a brawl broke out between the two legends.
On his Marcus Buff Bagwell YouTube channel, Bagwell revealed DDP took exception to something Steiner said about his then-wife Kimberly in a previous promo:
“He decides to defend his girl to Scott Steiner. Words were exchanged and they’d lock up, man, and Dallas kinda takes him by the head and they go down, and Scott Steiner worked his hand up and was trying, it looked like, to rip Dallas’ eyeball out. He was digging and it was bleeding and he was raking his eye. Dallas had a real big scar.” [2:14 – 2:41]
Although Bagwell thought DDP was winning the fight at first, he believes his friend’s eye would have been “badly injured” had people not stepped in.
DDP and Scott Steiner’s current relationship
In the 1990s and early 2000s, DDP and Steiner were two of WCW’s biggest names. They won world titles with the company and played key roles in Nitro’s success over WWE RAW in the Monday Night Wars.
Buff Bagwell added that the two men are good friends these days and they often work out together:
“It’s crazy, we go through these things and then 30-plus years later Scott Steiner now and Dallas work out together and Scotty comes over to do DDPY [DDP’s exercise program]. It’s just good to see that things do come back around, and Scotty and Dallas still talk. They’re friends.” [5:18 – 5:45]
Bagwell also clarified that the DDP and Steiner fight is not the best backstage brawl he has ever seen. According to the five-time WCW World Tag Team Champion, the incident between Paul Orndorff and Vader was more serious.
