The former World Champion discusses Vince McMahon's role in creating his distinctive moniker and its evolution throughout his career.
Seth Rollins has revealed that Vince McMahon originated his “Freakin” nickname, a moniker that became integral to his WWE persona. During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Rollins explained how the addition came about when McMahon sought to enhance his character’s name.
The former champion shared McMahon’s reasoning:
I give that credit to the old man. The middle name was his idea back in the day. I don’t remember why. I think he was just bored with Seth Rollins, he was like, ‘Ah, you’ll be Seth Freakin’ Rollins.’ Okay cool, so a lot of t-shirts when we did it, so whatever
Following character iterations as the “Monday Night Messiah” and “Drip God,” the “Freakin” nickname resurfaced. Rollins initially pushed for “The Visionary” title, but McMahon favored returning to “Freakin” with increased emphasis.
In separate news, Rollins confirmed his exclusion from “Captain America: Brave New World.” The WWE Superstar explained that script revisions affected his involvement:
Truth be told, any answer I gave would only be my opinion on it. The script went through a lot of rewrites and reshoots so what I was there to do, essentially my role got either repurposed or completely erased
Despite the setback, Rollins maintains his focus on wrestling over acting, contrasting with his wife Becky Lynch’s growing presence in entertainment projects, including an upcoming “Star Trek” appearance and additional unannounced roles.
