Current NXT Women's North American Champion Stephanie Vaquer revealed on Busted Open After Dark that she declined a main roster opportunity to first learn English and adapt to WWE's style.
Stephanie Vaquer revealed she turned down an opportunity to start directly on WWE’s main roster, choosing NXT to better prepare for her WWE career.
During an appearance on Busted Open After Dark, the current NXT Women’s North American Champion explained her decision-making process when signing with WWE.
My dream. WWE is my dream… I tried to think like an adult, that option. But WWE is my dream and say, okay, this is for me. Many options and talks but, say no. WWE is for me and I take NXT because I really like (to) do things or new things but good. I don’t like the fast and no good.
Vaquer clarified that the company presented her with both options during initial discussions, and she initially leaned toward the main roster opportunity.
So, I say okay, I need to learn English, I need to learn TV show, I need to learn American style, WWE style. So I say, first I say main roster. That changed and say, ‘I want to go to NXT to learn…’ Yeah (WWE asked me if I wanted to start on the main roster)… Main roster (was my first answer). The first call, they call me and say, ‘NXT or main roster?’ I say, ‘Main roster…’ Yeah, I think and say, ‘Okay. Take it easy. I need to learn English… Okay, change. NXT.’
Vaquer has proven her decision worthwhile since joining NXT, capturing the Women’s North American Championship by defeating Fallon Henley. She now faces a major opportunity to make history at the upcoming Roadblock special.
The champion will face NXT Women’s Champion Giulia with both titles on the line, creating the possibility of becoming a double champion.
