Former WWE producer Stevie Richards revealed he received negative feedback from NXT management over his approach to producing an Otis match. Richards discussed the incident during a recent episode of The Stevie Richards Show.
According to Richards, he provided basic guidance to Otis and his opponent rather than dictating specific spots through the referee’s earpiece, which contradicted NXT’s preferred production style at the time.
“I agented a match with Otis and this other guy and got a ton of heat because they were the first match, I gave them a little blueprint, and I said, ‘Go out there and have fun,’ and I did not call the spots to them through the referee earpiece and everybody got mad at me. And you know what they did? They had a solid match,”
Otis has since moved to the main roster, where he currently performs alongside Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri in Alpha Academy.
