The stage has been set for a high-stakes confrontation at AEW All In: Texas, after Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay issued a direct challenge to The Young Bucks on the June 25 edition of AEW Dynamite. Following a victory, Ospreay added a significant stipulation to the proposed match, suggesting Matthew and Nicholas Jackson put their Executive Vice President positions on the line.
The challenge was laid down after Strickland and Ospreay defeated the team of Blake Christian and Lee Johnson in the opening contest of the broadcast. The Young Bucks had observed the entire match from the entrance stage, surrounded by security.
Immediately after the challenge was issued, The Young Bucks announced that Swerve Strickland has been suspended for one week without pay. The suspension was justified by Strickland putting his hands on an AEW official.
This unlikely alliance between Strickland and Ospreay, two recent rivals, was forged weeks earlier. Their main event rematch at the AEW Summer Blockbuster event on June 11 ended in a 30-minute time-limit draw.
In the aftermath of that contest, The Young Bucks and Jon Moxley launched an attack on both competitors. The partnership between Ospreay and Strickland was solidified during the assault when Ospreay intentionally took a superkick that was aimed at Strickland.
The proposed tag team match is now targeted for AEW All In: Texas, which is scheduled to take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on July 12.
