The TNA World Championship match at Slammiversary has undergone a significant change, as TNA has officially announced the addition of Mike Santana. The contest will now be a Triple Threat Match, with champion Trick Williams defending his title against both Joe Hendry and Santana.
This development officially alters the previously confirmed one-on-one rematch between Williams and Hendry. Hendry was owed a contractual rematch after losing the championship, and recent speculation suggested Santana could be inserted into the high-profile bout. That speculation has now become a reality, adding a new dynamic to the main event on July 20.
The feud’s foundation was built at NXT Battleground in May, where Williams, a WWE performer, defeated Hendry to win TNA’s top prize. This cross-promotional title change set the stage for Hendry’s quest to reclaim the championship for his home promotion.
Even with the Slammiversary match set, the rivalry has continued to unfold on WWE programming. Hendry has maintained a consistent presence on NXT, including a post-match attack on Williams on the June 24 broadcast. Furthermore, Hendry is scheduled to face Wes Lee in a singles match on the July 1 episode of NXT, keeping him in the spotlight as the three-way collision approaches.
