Tony Khan didn’t let a WWE veteran wrestle in the company due to a serious issue. The AEW President signed Ric Flair in 2023 and the latter had a short role in the company.
The Nature Boy debuted in All Elite Wrestling as a gift to Sting ahead of his retirement. Along with him, he also made a deal with AEW to promote his ‘Wooooo Energy drinks.’ However, he was rarely featured on TV during his stint. His last appearance in the promotion happened at the Revolution pay-per-view.
Ric Flair’s deal with the Jacksonville-based promotion ended in July 2024. He was seemingly scheduled to appear on the upcoming Collision episode, but AEW reportedly pulled his appearance from the show for unrevealed reasons. During his time in the company, he didn’t wrestle but took a few hits.
On the recent edition of the Five Star Podcast, Ric Flair claimed that Tony Khan didn’t allow him to wrestle in the squared circle as the former was on blood thinners.
“Once Tony (Khan) found out I was on blood thinners, he wouldn’t let me get in the ring,” he said. (H/T WrestleTalk)
Ric Flair sends a message to Tony Khan after a controversial moment
On an episode of Rampage in December 2023, the Hall of Famer cut a promo in which he invited women to his hotel room.
After the social media outrage towards him, Ric Flair took to X/Twitter and claimed that he would walk away from the promotion if he let down Tony Khan.
“I Am So Tired Of Hearing All This Negativity! I Don’t Need To Work, And I Don’t Need The Money. Can’t I Simply Enjoy Being By My Dear Friend @Sting’s Side For The Next Few Months Without So Much Hatred? I Know I’m Old, But That Doesn’t Mean I Can’t Enjoy Life! I Have Earned The Right To Do Whatever I Want & I’m Exactly Where I Want To Be! I Appreciate Everything @TonyKhan, But I’m More Than Willing To Walk Away If I Am Embarrassing You And Your Company. All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry!” he wrote.
It will be interesting to see if Ric Flair returns to the Jacksonville-based promotion in the future.
